Knock Knock

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
Matthew 7:7

The Greek word for “knock” means “to rap”.

When I first learned this, I got confused as young men with side-ward hats and tattoos flashed across my mind. But thank the Lord for the dictionary! “To rap” is defined as “a sharp blow or knock’ (in Merriam-Webster’s). Another definition I found says; strike (a hard surface) with a series of rapid audible blows, especially in order to attract attention.

So let me ask you, are you knocking on Gods door in such a way that it is ATTRACTING His attention?!

So many people get discouraged because they can’t seem to find God. But my question for those people is, how hard are you looking?

Are you looking and then just giving up because things aren't happening in your time frame?

Are you getting distracted by the cares of this world?

Are you content and complacent without truly knowing God?

Now, let’s visit another verse:

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."
Revelation 3:20

The verse above is coming from the Lords perspective- He is standing at our door knocking, waiting for us to allow Him to come in.

Guess what?

Knock in Revelation 3:20 has the same meaning for the word for knock in Matthew 7:7.  So in a sense, Jesus is striking on your door with a series of rapid audible blows, trying to get your attention.

Jesus has always been knocking on the door of YOUR heart, vying to get your attention. He is pursuing you because He loves you so much. God shows His love for us in a number of ways. It could be thru His creation, personal experiences with Him, or in His word. But the GREATEST way God has shown us His love is thru Jesus’ death on a cross for sinners such as us.

Romans 5:8 says; “But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus’ sacrifice for us is the ultimate expression of God’s love for us. If you ever doubt Gods love or pursuit for your heart, look to the cross. At the cross we see God pounding on the door of our hearts, going at all lengths to get our love and attention.
