Finding His Will
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
If you’ve been in the Christian world at any length of time, you have most likely heard of this verse. As we come to know Christ, our hearts come alive with purpose, passion, and potential that we’ve never known before. His life becomes ours, and we’re awakened to a new reality and a new life in Christ.
But, what happens when we lose our focus? What do we do when we get off the path? For some it could have been just a couple wrong decisions, for others we woke up one day and asked ourselves, “How did I get here?”
The great news is that no matter where you are in your journey, God’s plans for you still remain. There is nothing that could happen in your life that will change God’s mind about using you in this world and for His kingdom.
As we surrender all we are to Jesus, and seek Him with our whole heart, His word promises that we will find Him. It’s so simple, but with all the day to day responsibilities and life just getting in the way, we get so distracted from seeking God with everything we are. So what are some things we can do to find God and His will for our lives?
1. Ask Him for a hunger. Matthew 5:6 says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
When we hunger and thirst for the things of God, God promises to satisfy our desires. But if we were honest, many of us are complacent. We’re apathetic and we have found ourselves comfortable not going deeper with the Lord. Trust me, I’ve been there. But even though we might not feel like pressing in harder, press in anyways. Life is so short- don’t let yourself miss all of what God wants to do in and thru you. Ask God to give you a hunger and thirst for Himself and His kingdom. Ask God to give you a desire to know Him more. It IS His will for you to know Him more, so He IS going to answer that prayer.
2. Get connected. Acts 2:44 says, “All the believers were together and had everything in common.”
As you read the surrounding verses of Acts 2:44, you will get a snapshot of the early church and how they interacted with each other. In short, believers did LIFE together. That is what brothers and sisters in Christ were called to- to do life with each other, just like a family. We are NOT designed to do life alone. Especially as Christians. We have a very real enemy who wants to take us out. Find other believers whom you can do life with. Start by getting connected to your local church and then diving into small groups. If you’re church doesn’t have small groups, then start one! There is no excuse for 21st century Christians in the Western world to not be able to do these things. We have so many resources available to us. Do whatever you need to do to get connected and STAY connected.
3. Pray for HIS will. Luke 22:42 says, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
Even if you’ve been praying so much and you’re tired of it, keep on praying. Keep telling God to let His will be done in your life. Sometimes we get caught up in praying for what we want, when God is asking us to pray for what HE wants to do in your life. Have you ever thought something was God, but then you completely missed the mark? I’m sure we all have. There was a season in my life where I held onto a “promise” I thought was of God. Even though I thought it was God’s will for this promise to come to pass, my main prayer that I prayed everyday was “Let YOUR will be done.” Over the course of time, His will was accomplished. He opened my eyes and showed me what was truly of Him and what was not. God is so patient with us. He is more kind that we could ever imagine. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own desires that we blur the lines between what is God’s will and what is our own. The best way to walk as Christians is to have open hands, leave our agenda on the backburner, and to tell Jesus to do whatever He wants in and thru us. God is our Father and our Creator, He knows what is best for us. We just need to have the faith to believe in His character and goodness, and to follow Him no matter the cost because His love is better than life itself.
These are just some practical steps on finding God in the midst of life wherever you are today. Even though each of our journeys are unique, He can be found anywhere and anytime. I am praying we would all have our eyes opened to see Jesus in the midst of our life today. Because Christ dwells within us, and because God is Omni-present, we can find Him at any point, in any situation, in any season.
God loves you more than you know. He has a plan for your life. Even if all you have is suffering on this earth, He STILL has good things because the good things are not based on our circumstances, they are based on HIS character- His character that never changes.
Let this be the anthem of every believers life: ‘Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.” Psalm 63:3
We are praying for you to find the fullness of Jesus and all His plans for your life!
God bless you!
